It became an insurance requirement from January 2016 that all therapists operating Laser & IPL equipment must be level 4 qualified. Without this certification, a therapist will not be insured and will also not have the correct intensive training required, to operate this kind of potentially dangerous equipment.
What is the technology behind Laser & IPL?
Laser & IPL both operate on the same fundamental technology, using light to damage certain parts of the skin or hair, to produce the desired results.
Laser uses a single light "wavelength" to specifically target various chromophores in the skin or hair.
Intense Pulsed Light is precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin. In addition, specific lesions such as thread veins, age spots and freckles are targeted resulting in a more uniform complexion.
There is mis-leading information out there that laser is more effective than IPL at hair removal. This is only true of older IPL equipment. The latest equipment which I use, is the Med-ice3 which has a very small wavelength band (closer to laser) which targets the hair follicles directly, and not the surrounding skin tissue so much (safer also). I have had clients come to me who have had Laser in the past and it has not worked and have asked me why it is my equipment works so much better! The results really are amazing! Oh and did I mention it is virtually pain-free?!
